Excellent drive, very fast and quiet!

Have had this for a month now and originally purchased to replace a 500GB LaCie drive (which works great but needed more capacity). The drive is VERY quiet, fast and to date reliable. This is my 3rd LaCie drive in 5 years and (knock on wood) I have not had any issues with the drives to date.
I use these primarily for my Macs. |

| Have had for a month, so far so good. It is used as a backup for a 1.6 TB server. One day we noticed a red light flashing and found out that was a heat warning. We repositioned the unit in a better path of air and no problems. |
Great for Mac video & photo storage

| I own 2 LaCie Quadra drives, a 1 TB and a 2TB. I bought both to interface to my iMac via a firewire 800 connection (they're daisy chained). On an iMac this allows the external drive to be the bootable backup drive if a problem develops. I needed the rather large amount of storage to store HD videos, photos, and backups...particularly HD video. The Quadra drives have met all my needs as anticipated. They have worked flawlessly with my iMac and, as a bonus, they don't look bad on your desktop. All things considered I'm happy with the drive and will probably add more when needed to boost HD video storage archives. |
Good storage device

| Excellent storage device. I store large photo files and have previously filled up a Lacie 1TB hard drive. I was looking for another firewire hard drive so I could daisy-chain them together (effectively - 3 TB). The machine, so far, is fast and reliable. And since I own a Mac, it has had no problems communicating with it instantly and effectively. |
La Cie does not dissappoint

| I got the La Cie 2T drive to back up my iMac and external 1T La Cie FW 800. Just plugged the FW 800 plug into the back of the other La Cie and DONE. Time machine did the rest. |
2TB at a great price. Set-up was flawless. Performance is outstanding

| As a videographer and photographer I need dependability and speed. I've had several LaCie drives over the years and they have performed very well. Expect a lifetime of about 2 years and ALWAYS back-up your important photos, videos and documents to tape or disk. |
No good for DirecTV DVRs

I had to return this device as it didn't work with my HR21-100 DirecTV DVR.
They apparently have two disk drives and make them look like 1 with RAID 0...however, this approach doesn't work for everything... |

Built In Obsolescence
|

| Not a SINGLE Lacie external hard drive that I have bought has lasted more than three years. Today, my eighth Lacie drive failed. Like its predecessors, it will no longer mount and it cannot be reformatted. I am now convinced, based on my experience and those of the other negative posters here, that Lacie deliberately builds planned obsolescence into its hard drives. Either that, our they have incredibly sloppy quality control. Every time one of their drives fails, I lose valuable information. I am abandoning Lacie forever. |
