Despite the claims in the other review, the warranty on this unit is an impressive 3 years. I've been using this drive on a regular basis for high-bandwidth video editing, and this array has been fantastic. And you can't beat the redundancy of Raid 5. I bought it the first day it was available about 6-8 months ago.

Some useful notes:
-In OS X, when your computer sleeps, this array remains on.
-The array has an impressive cooling facility. Unfortunately, it's a little louder then you'd expect. It's not obtrusive, but it's not silent.

In the past, Lacie's stand-alone firewire drives had a reputation of dying shortly after their one-year warranty was up. That reputation has completely been eliminated in my mind based on the new warranty, and my experience with most of their new products.

I have two 2TB LaCie drives and both failed during warranty. One had the whole units promptly replaced and the other had the external power supply promptly replaced. When one was 14 months old it failed again, but was out of warranty, and I found out that LaCie offered NO SERVICE to products out of warranty. So it is now a boat anchor. They did not even provide the tools to determine which drive has failed so I could replace it. They suggested that I search the web and that I might be able to find some tools that would help.
