So far, so good, after cheap WD "Book" drives failed!

| I had nothing but problems with the Western Digital "Book" drives (see review elsewhere) but this drive has so far been perfect. It's used for manual backup, and not used everyday, but after two months, NO complaints. |

| Anyone that has used Maxtor or WesternDigital will be surprised at how much longer these hard drives last. Hitachi has always impressed me by the quality of drive they offer. |
Poor performance and ultimately failure

By the fact that I am wasting my time typing this, one should gather that this product is inferior and frustrating. I am returning this immediately. The time to recognize from plug-in is the longest in the industry sometimes minutes, which is insane if you have used LaCie drives.
I edit video and this lasted less than a month before failure, where the drive stopped being recognized by the mac. I have 100's of gigs worth of media that is now gone, because the RMA process just sends you a replacement instead of fix the old one.
I thought the Hitachi brand name would be an indication of some level of assurance, but incidents like this make me wonder of the quality of products or lack thereof in the entire line of Hitachi. |
