Very Impressive

For the past week I have placed this drive under heavy stress constantly reading an writing massive amounts of data and I have to say I am very impressed. It's a solid drive that's reliable and looks like it will last very long.
I initially regretted buying the drive since the box contents was not what was shown in the Amazon picture. Amazon's listing has a picture showing the power supply that contains a cable going to a power plug. Instead, I got the power adaptor built into the plug, which means if I plug it into my power strip, this huge adaptor will block the other sockets on the left and right of the power strip. This is the only problem. The power switch is located below the eSATA connector which makes it a little hard to reach with the eSATA cable plugged in, but this is very minor.
Soon after getting the drive, my computer's internal drives got some corruption that broke the RAID 0 configuration. So this drive was active nonstop for days writing and reading huge disk images in an attempt to restore data. It took the massive workload with no problems. No clicking, rattling, or loud noises, probably the quietest drive I ever heard. I am using the high speed eSATA interface. USB is a joke for a drive this size. Thanks to this drive, I got my computer back to the way it was with all data intact.
This drive uses a Hitachi 7K2000 hard drive model HDS722020ALA330. The specs are impressive. It's 32 MB cache, not 16 MB as in Amazon's listing. During the last few years I have had a lot of hard drive failures with new drives from Western Digital and Seagate. I have lost faith in those manufacturers. I think Hitachi seems like the best alternative. Their technology seems very good, like Thermal Fly-height Control, Head load/unload, ECC and CRC protection and many more. In fact, I just bought 2 other Hitachi drives to replace the current Western Digital drives in my computer that suffered the corruption. I believe this product with a Hitachi drive inside is much better than most of the other products that use hard drives from other manufacturers.
Of course it's impossible to tell if this drive will be resilient without years of usage, but so far I am very impressed with it. It has been completely trouble free and has been able to take on massive workload. If you don't mind the huge plug-in adaptor, I would highly recommend this. |
Very Nice Unit

| Everything was very well packaged. Opened the unit and all of the necessary cables and power supply were nicely packaged, so I read the "getting started" instructions plugged in the drive and everything has worked perfect with Windows 7. The unit runs very quiet and cool and I don't even know it is on, other then the blue light. To soon to tell about durability but the case is very sturdy and very well built and if that is a reflection of the rest of the drive it should provide years of service. As of the moment a great purchase and would buy it again! |
